iQuatics Dragon Rock Instructions

Date Published - 24th April 2024 - Published by - Shawn Beardmore

Curing aquarium dragon rock before use is crucial to ensure it’s safe for your aquatic environment.

Follow these steps to properly cure your dragon rock:

  1. Inspect the Rock: Before beginning the curing process, carefully inspect the dragon rock for any loose particles, debris, or signs of damage. Remove any loose material by gently rinsing the rock under running water or brushing it with a soft brush.
  2. Soak the Rock: Place the dragon rock in a clean container large enough to fully submerge it in water. Use either a dedicated bucket or a clean plastic container. Fill the container with tap water, ensuring the rock is completely submerged.
  3. Water Change: Allow the rock to soak for 24 to 48 hours. During this time, periodically change the water every 12 to 24 hours to remove any leached minerals or other impurities from the rock. Simply drain the water and refill the container with fresh water each time.
  4. Scrubbing (Optional): If you notice any stubborn debris or algae buildup on the rock’s surface during the soaking process, gently scrub it with a soft brush to remove it. Avoid using harsh chemicals or soaps, as they can be harmful to your aquarium’s ecosystem.
  5. Final Rinse: After soaking the rock for the recommended period and performing water changes, give it a final rinse under running water to remove any remaining particles or impurities.
  6. Testing Water Parameters: Before adding the cured dragon rock to your aquarium, test the water parameters such as pH, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels to ensure they are within the acceptable range for your aquarium inhabitants.
  7. Aquarium Placement: Once the dragon rock is properly cured and the water parameters are stable, you can carefully place it in your aquarium according to your desired layout. Arrange the rock to create caves, ledges, or other landscape features, taking into account the needs and preferences of your fish and other aquatic life.
